One of the issues that's always bothered me is that of contemporary music, but until recently I didn't think about actually writing a post. Unlike the concerned parents or congressional committees, I don't really care about whether lyrics are explicit or not. I see something that a lot of people take for granted: where they say "that's the way it always has been" or "that's just because" - or perhaps they never thought about it. What is this "issue," you ask? 95% or more of songs on the radio today are "love songs."I use the term broadly, because if you're tuned into the top 100 recently, "sex songs" is a more apt description. Still, the songs all have to do with relationships, dating, romance, sex, love, hate over love, breakups, jealosy, getting back together, clubs, bars, women, and a million other variations on this one theme. The problem is that it gets so trite after a while that one almost feels like gagging. After all, how many songs can you listen to where someone moans over what (s)he did and wants the partner back? (Perhaps the moaning is about something more purient.) Or how about another masterpiece about noticing some stranger across the dance floor and getting it on?
